The Company

Jewels for Hope; The Blog was inspired by my mothers and my company, Jewels for Hope.

My mother founded this company many years ago (2009).

Here is a picture of the family. Since my mother refuses to take pictures alone- this was the only one I have of her that looks halfway decent ha ha

This all started when my grandfather- my mother's stepfather- was diagnosed with a brain tumor and put into the hospital/assisted living facility. My mother would go visit him and my grandmother every day for 2 years until he passed away. After my grandfather passed, the only logical thing was to have my grandmother move in with us. Since she couldn't handle the stairs in our current condo, we had to move to a raised ranch so she wouldn't have to go up and down stairs constantly.

My mother,Sandy, took care of my grandmother, suffering from Parkinson's disease for 7 years. My mother had to quit her job to stay home with my grandmother more. Since she was home all day, my mom decided to start creating jewelry.  She said it was either create jewelry, or gain 50lbs from stress eating ha ha.

My grandmother passed away almost 2 years ago. Towards the end, Hospice was at our house every day (for almost a year). Jewels for Hope was created and started donating a portion of the proceeds to Connecticut Hospice. The caretakers that work there really do go above and beyond- my mom always says that she would have never been able to get through that time without Hospice.

Sandy is all self taught when it comes to making jewelry. During the past couple of years she really has grown into an amazing jewelry maker- and no, I'm not saying that because she is my mother and this is part of my company ha ha. Look for yourself...

Since early 2010 I have been the promotion end of  Jewels for Hope.  until my mother taught me how to do her famous twisted wire pieces -- so now I get the best of both worlds- a little of the creative and a little of the business!

I love the fact that this is a mother daughter team. I am so proud of my mother for making the items that she does. Even though some days we really want to bite each others heads off- we work really well together.

We believe everyone should give back in some way, shape, or form. We donate a portion of the profits of every single sale to one of 15 organizations close to our hearts.

Along with donating to those major organizations, we just started our own fund- Hope for Caregivers; a fund to give families money who cannot afford the assistance of aides to help care for their loved ones. My mother wished there was something like this while she was caring for her mother.
